Life at Risk
What if we – you, me, your friends, my friends – could create a game that would save a child’s life…that would save many children’s lives? Wouldn’t you do it?
We are here to offer you that chance…
What we know
The realty is bleak – around 8 million children under 5 years of age die each year.
We know the top causes of these deaths
We know where the problems are the greatest
We even know that around 70% of these early child deaths are due to conditions that could be prevented or treated with access to simple, affordable interventions.
Child rearing begins at home, and more specifically, it begins with the mother.
As global public health experts, we have seen how the lack of simple resources and a basic understanding of prenatal and child health care has a devastating, and often times deadly, impact on a child.
We want to reverse this trend and enhance the traditional ways that mothers learn to care for their children and improve their care-seeking behaviours.
Traditional methods of education are no longer enough. Changing behaviours and affecting learning in a positive way requires a new type of engagement. One that is interactive, motivational and provides an immersive and educational experience.
We believe that serious gaming has a lot to contribute in the area of health, and specifically in aiding families as they care for their children.
We want to help families help themselves via a compelling learning game that will teach mothers in areas where child mortality is high how to avoid and manage health risks for the most pressing issues a child under 5 will face.
Once this game is developed, we will work with our contacts in the public health arena to ensure that this game gets in to the hands of those who need it most. We are thinking about possible partnerships with Ministries of Health, Ministries of Education, UNICEF…we want to reach the people who need this most!
Who we are
We are a global health team that has been working in a range of public health issues around the world for over 15 years.
We have worked around the globe with Ministries of Health, civil society groups, donor organizations (i.e. World Bank, UNICEF) and others on the ground to make a positive impact on the lives of people who are most affected by severe public health issues.
